Django User model with no permissions needed
I am trying to use Django to create a website where I would not have to worry about permissions of the users (authentication is done via OpenId)
I found a Django app django-openid-auth that pretty much does what I want.
I am not sure if I would be able to use the User model in the app. Do I need to add any extra attributes to the User model? Also, if a user signs up with an email and password combination, is there a way for that user to be logged in (via openid?)

You can write your own custom authentication system using django.contrib.auth.authenticate if you want.
The nice thing about django-openid-auth is that it implements one such authentication for you already.
But if you want to roll your own, you can find the code for django.contrib.auth.authenticate in django.contrib.auth.backends.
You would just need to create your own method that uses the openid provider to login the user. You can find an example implementation here.
